“What are you doing here, Necklim,” the demon hissed, “you have no claim here.”

“I have claim to wherever the One who sits on the Mercy Seat says I have claim to Ackmen.” Necklim replaced his sword in the sheath and focused his attention on the girl in the car. He spoke only one word to her spirit before they all disappeared. “Pray.”

“Pray? What will that do for me? Prayer is something only Bible believers do, and I'm not a Bible believer. Okay, sure, I've heard of God and His angels, and Satan and his demons, and all that – wait if those were angels, then that means,” she looked towards the house, “that means that is a demon?”

She shook her head. “Thanks to tonight, I don’t know what I believe in anymore. A week ago, even a day ago I would have said the person had lost their mind who had seen such stuff! Now, here I sit in the middle of it all.”

She thought back to her run-in with Miranda. “I guess what she has is the real deal?” She drummed her fingers on the steering wheel as she looked at the blue suitcase in the seat next to her. She leaned over, unzipped the front of it and reached into the tiny pocket where she had placed Miranda's card weeks before. She stared. Then slowly flipped it over and over again in her hand while contemplating sending a message. “Oh, why not? It's good to get a shock of a lifetime every once in a while. This is sure to be one for her. Me, Katelyn Burnsten, asking for prayer.”
